NEW YORK CITY
During the course of the week, we meet many people. Monday is a visit to the second largest soup kitchen in America, Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen, where we may serve as many as 1000 meals in 2 hours. Tuesday brings a day at the Catholic Worker, a house of hospitality and movement. We will help with the soup line and prepare for the next day's line. We also attend mass at the Worker where the tables we served the least among us and nourished them become our table that nourishes us in the Eucharist. Wednesday is a day of presence back at the Worker- a day spent in relationship with those we met the day before. Basically, it is relishing time together. Thursday, we travel to the Bronx to the NY Common Pantry to pack and hand out bags of food that supplement the nutritional needs for many families for a week. Of course the week would not be complete without fun- time spent seeing Times Square, visiting the 911 memorial & St. Patrick's Cathedral, and riding the Staten island Ferry.
